Côteaux Bourguignons, Domaine Marchand-Tawse 2018
Domaine Marchand-Tawse, Nuits St Georges
With over 25 years of winemaking experience at renowned Burgundy domaines such as Comte Armand and Domaine de la Vougeraie, and as a consultant in Chile, California, Canada and Australia, Pascal Marchand possesses a deep understanding of terroir-driven wines. At the beginning of 2006, he created his new micro-négociant label. For Pascal’s first vintage he produced almost 1,000 cases from 7 different wines, mainly from the Côte de Nuits. He now offers in excess of 40 different appellations from the Côte de Nuits, as well as a smattering of wine from the Côte de Beaune. His fruit is sourced from growers he knows well and in whom he has total confidence. All of his wines originate from vineyards with vines of a minimum of 35 years of age. Some of his growers are certified organic; some are organic in ethos but work without certification. All though are highly dedicated to quality. Pascal’s partnership with his long-time friend Moray Tawse marks a commitment to crafting wines that are amongst the finest expression of Burgundy’s most celebrated terroirs.
In fact, the Coteaux Bourguignons appellation allows its reds and rosés to use Pinot Noir, Gamay and even the little-known César; whites contain Chardonnay, Aligoté, Melon de Bourgogne, Pinot Blanc or Pinot Gris. This refreshing Marchand-Tawse example might not be a Pinot Noir, but it’s still unmistakably Bourgogne.
Delicious red, brightly fruited, pleasingly structured. the aroma a touch more floral, and light in body despite its textural tannins.
Grape: 100% Gamay
