Aglianico Contado, Di Majo Norante, Campomarino, Molise 2017
Di Majo Norante, Campomarino, Molise
The Contado Riserva is made from 100% Aglianico grapes grown in the south eastern region of Molise. The grapes are hand-harvested in late October and undergo an extended period of maceration to build incredible concentration and flavour. After fermentation in stainless steel, the wine is matured in a combination of stainless steel and barriques for eighteen months, resulting in a layered, complex wine. The Phoenicians brought Aglianico to Italy from greek and mainly from Eubea, many centuries before Christ was born. This Ancient Vine produced Pope Paul III’s favourite wine.
Ruby red. First of all, the vinous scent reaches the nose, followed by large and intense hints of ripe red pulp fruit. Tasting it proves to be soft and velvety, with a good body and rightly tannic. Overall it is harmonious and has a persistence that recalls almond.
