Bandol Rouge La Bastide Blanche, Bandol 2019
La Bastide Blanche, Bandol
Stéphane Bourret and his team have improved La Bastide wines’ quality beyond recognition. Despite the pressure of the many tourists ready to buy almost anything at any price, he has chosen a path of quality and hard work. Most of the estate is now run with bio-dynamic methods and the results are stupefying with most wines awarded great accolades in the national and international wine press.
Described by award-winning critic Andrew Jefford as a “must try” in his recent Decanter report on his favourite Southern France regions, La Bastide Blanche Bandol is made with a blend of 77% Mourvèdre, 13% Grenache, 8% Cinsault and 2% Syrah from 30 year old vines planted on clay and limestone soils with patches of gravel. The wine has rich, concentrated aromas and flavours of blackberries, blackcurrants, liqourice and sweet spice, with a firm tannic backbone.
Grapes: 7% Mourvèdre, 13% Grenache, 8% Cinsault, 2% Syrah
