Chateaux Ollieux Romanis, Corbieres Rouge ‘Cuvee Classique’ 2020
Château Ollieux-Romanis, Pierre Bories, Corbières
The Château Ollieux Romanis is a magnificent property, surrounded by old vines and olive trees or ‘Ollieux’. It has been owned by the same family since 1860. The oldest Carignan vines were planted here in 1896. Wine is an important part of the family history. Jacqueline Bories was probably the first women to vinify wine in the Languedoc at a time when wine was a man’s affair. Avoiding the temptations of fashion, she developed the potential of traditional grape varieties often considered as being of a low quality level : Carignan, Cinsault, Grenache gris, Alicante… In 2001, her son Pierre, after spending ten years in finance, was caught up by his enthusiasm for the family vineyard, joining the domaine and creating a new collection of wines. The predominant characteristics of the wines produced by Jacqueline and Pierre are a surprising freshness, soft and rich with a lively vinous style, intense fruit and a refined mineral texture.
Blend which, along with the classic black varieties, features Carignan that is produced from vines which are up to 100 years old! Aged in oak for 15 months, it displays concentrated flavours of black cherries, cocoa butter and liquorice – a fine example of a wine which is suitable for both drinking young or ageing.
Dominated by Carignan, it has concentrated flavours of cherries, cocoa, liquorice and balsam. Lovely oak ageing, spicy and Med. herbs finish.
