Description
‘Oberhauser Leitenberg’ Riesling Kabinett , Dönnhoff, Nahe 2021
Weingut Dönnhoff, Oberhausen, Nahe
Gault Millau German ‘Winemaker of the Year’ in 1999, Helmut Dönnhoff is slowly relinquishing the reigns to his equally talented son, Cornelius. This is the most highly regarded cellar in the entire Nahe valley and sits amongst the finest Riesling producers in the world. Helmut considers the 2011 vintage as possibly the finest of the past ten years, with power, intensity and minerality. Whilst the 2012 is a smaller crop, the wines are already being described as their equal.
Roxheimer Höllenpfad: An ancient name that translates to “path to hell”. A Grosses Gewächs site, steeply sloping with a southern aspect in a small side valley of the middle section of the Nahe River. Weathered red sandstone soil. It’s from the cadaster parcel Mühlberg, which could be a GG, but this is a famously tardy wine-Kahlenberg gives you a chummier greeting
From red sandstone soils, the Riesling Oberhauser Leitenberg offers a lovely, clear and refined aromatic bouquet that intermingles Riesling and lemon flavors with the purity and flintiness of the sandstone terroir that delivers only small-sized, botrytis-free berries. Silky and round on the palate, this medium to full-bodied and crystalline Riesling reveals a stunning depth, elegance, power and intensity in the finish, which must be the result of 45-year-old vines
