Description
Santenay ‘Vieilles Vignes’ Domaine Justin Girardin 2020/21
Justin Girardin, Chassagne Montrachet
A new discovery for us, Domaine Jacques Girardin is very much a family affair. With a winemaking heritage that stretches back to the beginning of the 19th Century, Jacques (brother of Vincent) now runs the 17ha family domaine together with his wife, Valérie, and son Justin. Whilst not being officially certified, Jacques uses many organic techniques as he is passionate about producing wines that express terroir. The results are superbly perfumed, multi-layered wines.
Selected from plots aged more than 50 years from the following
‘Clos Genets’
after the name of an owner
‘St Jean’
the Santenay hamlet where the 12th Century church is dedicated to St John.
‘Les Saunières’
coming from the salt found at a shallow depth not far from Santenay’s salt water source.
Somewhat savage nose marked with black pepper and an earthy aroma. The palate is full of pungent cranberry and blackcurrant nose with laurel and cinnamon. The wine is medium weight with markedly ripe tannins on a moderately long and persistent finish.
Grape: Pinot Noir
