Saumur Blanc ‘Brézé’ Domaine Guiberteau 2020
Romain Guiberteau, Saumur, Saint-Just-sur-Dive, Anjou-Saumur
“The whites have obvious class and demonstrate all the potential for white-wine production in Saumur. The reds, not to be outdone, capture a unique expression of Cabernet Franc that surpasses all expectations. This is a departure for the real or supposed spirit of Saumur, with a quality of fruit that puts them alongside the greatest wine in France” Bettane & Desseauve’s Guide to The Wines of France
Romain Guiberteau is a very ambitious young producer, who happens to be a very good friend of Nady Foucault, having previously worked with him at Clos Rougeard and says, “An internship with Clos Rougeard is an internship for life.” There is no better mentor than Nady; the progress made by Romain is stupefying and his Saumur Blancs from his 14.5 hectares of vineyards are stunning expressions of Chenin Blanc on the Brézé terroirs.
