Description
Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, Cantina Vittorio Innocenti 2017
Vittorio Innocenti, Montefollonico, Tuscany
Vittorio Innocenti gave up teaching philosophy a number of years ago in order to concentrate on his 32-hectare estate based at Montefollonico near Sienna in Tuscany. He is aided by his theatre-historian wife Maria-Rosa and their son Tommaso and together they produce excellent examples of the Sangiovese grape out of their 13th century cellar based in the centre of the town. Aged in oak for 2 years and made from Prugnolo (‘plummy’) Gentile (the local name for Sangiovese). Canaiolo Nero and Mammolo grapes, this is a dense and spicy wine to match any good cut of steak.
A brighy ruby red in the glass. Aromas of black cherries, violets and mint. On the palate, firm and dense with pronounced yet well-balanced tannins. Further black fruit notes combine with a spicy backbone. Lingering finish. Great with roasted wild mushrooms over polenta, Tuscany’s famous Ribollita soup or a simply braised lamb shank with borlotti beans and shaved fennel.
Grapes: Sangiovese – Canaiolo Nero – Mammolo
